Black Talent In Business, Actuarial, National, 2024
As one of the UK's largest Actuarial practices, we are market leaders in providing insights and solutions for businesses facing significant and complex risks. Our role is crucial in supporting clients during uncertain times by analyzing how future events could impact their businesses and calculating the potential impact of these events. Using our risk and analytical skills, we assess the effects of changing demographics or legislation on pension schemes, the impact of financial market changes on different organizations, and the likelihood of businesses being affected by natural disasters such as earthquakes. Our Actuarial Services team is part of our Risk business, which operates in a constantly changing and complex world. We bring together people from diverse backgrounds and utilize cutting-edge technology to solve complex problems and build resilient organizations. By joining us, you will have the opportunity to support our clients in rethinking risk.
Our Actuarial Services team, which is part of Risk Modelling Services, has offices in London, Edinburgh, Manchester, and Bristol. We are one of the fastest-growing areas within our Risk practice, working with clients across various sectors including insurance, healthcare, banking, investments, and business modeling. Our team consists of actuaries, data scientists, and advanced analytics practitioners who use cutting-edge technology to solve a range of client problems. We encourage our team members to take early responsibility and proactively develop their careers. We aim to develop well-rounded consultants, not just technically strong analysts. This means exposure to a wide range of projects and collaboration with specialists from other disciplines within PwC.
As part of PwC, we are involved in both actuarial-led projects and providing specialist advice on wider engagements led by other business units. In our Workforce division, we help leading UK and international employers maximize the potential of their workforce. Our projects cover a wide range of areas, from defining HR strategies to improving workforce effectiveness and implementing technology solutions. We work across all sectors of the economy and provide vital support to our clients. In our Black Talent in Business programme, you will have the opportunity to gain insights into a potential career at PwC, meet mentors and buddies from various areas of the company, and learn from our Black colleagues and networks focused on Inclusion and Diversity. This paid three-day programme will help develop your confidence in a business setting and encourage you to bring your whole self to the workplace.
As an Actuary, you will work with uncertainty and help clients analyze how future events could impact them. Our clients come from the insurance, banking, healthcare, public, and non-financial services sectors. Your advice may involve managing economic capital, risk management, assessing liabilities, mergers and acquisitions, financial modeling, stress testing, and scenario testing. You will also navigate the evolving economic and regulatory environment and assess the viability of new products. Your responsibilities will include providing clear and concise communication of complex concepts, working in multidisciplinary teams to analyze risks facing businesses, learning about different industries and external trends, providing specialist advice on audits of insurers and banks, helping clients adapt to changing conditions, and drafting reports and presentations to explain findings.
To be eligible for this role, you need to be on track to pass an undergraduate degree or above in any subject. The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) recommends applicants have a math-based degree, but it is not a requirement. If you do not have a math-based degree, the IFoA offers non-member exams to prepare you for their qualification process. This programme is open to first-year undergraduate students on a three-year degree course or second-year students on a four-year degree course. During the Black Talent in Business programme, you will be assessed for eligibility to join our Summer Internship programme in 2025. Please note that office locations for this role include London, Edinburgh, Manchester, and Bristol, and your preference will be requested during the recruitment process. Applications for this role may close early if there is a high volume of interest, so we encourage you to apply promptly.
