Commercial Manager Job purpose:

As a Commercial Manager, your role will involve leading renewable energy transactions, such as project sales or Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), from start to finish. You will be responsible for conducting complex financial and commercial analysis and providing accurate and timely results to support decision-making. In addition, you will provide commercial leadership across activities in the UK and Ireland and manage the UK and Ireland Commercial team.

Job Summary/Key Responsibilities:

Transactions: You will oversee and lead commercial transactions in the UK and Ireland region, including project sales and acquisitions. This will involve establishing relationships with internal teams, originating transactions, creating value-optimized structures, and negotiating to reach a conclusion.

Financial Analysis: You will be responsible for operating and auditing financial models for project, asset, and company valuations. You will challenge assumptions and deliver insightful output to support decision-making.

Routes to Market: You will lead the origination and negotiation of PPAs and develop competitive bidding strategies. You will also support the management of offtaker relationships.

Business Strategies: You will provide commercial input into business strategy production and undertake market, strategic, and competitor analysis. You will oversee input from junior team members and ensure valuable insights are generated.

Investor Relationships: You will support the management of investor relationships and maintain a network of contacts in the industry.

Other Opportunities and Analysis: You will provide strategic and commercial input for cost reduction initiatives and other value-adding opportunities. You will also conduct commercial analysis for various aspects, including new sites, construction, asset management, and new business opportunities.

Policy and Regulation: You will support engagement with government and regulatory bodies by analyzing the financial and commercial impact of policy decisions.

Team Management and Coaching: You will provide line management and coaching to analysts in the Commercial team and mentorship across the wider business.

Processes: You will ensure excellence in the implementation of team processes and lead process improvement activities.

Knowledge Requirements:

Electricity Market: You should have an excellent understanding of the electricity market in the UK and Ireland.

Technology: You should have a strong appreciation of different renewable technologies and business models.

Network: You should have a good network of contacts in the renewables industry.

Contracts/Transaction Structures: You should understand the contractual structures and principles used in project transactions and PPAs.

Experience Requirements:

Transactions: You should have experience in originating, negotiating, and transacting sales and/or acquisitions.

Routes to Market: You should have experience in originating, negotiating, and closing PPAs and other routes to market.

Financial Modelling and Analysis: You should have experience using analytical techniques, discounted cash flow modeling, and valuations.

People: You should have experience in line management and coaching.

Project Management: You should have experience in project management and delivering on multiple competing deadlines.

Skill Requirements:

Overall: You should have a broad range of commercial and technical skills, including an understanding of energy value chain economics, financial evaluation process, business case preparation, and interpreting complex data.

Modelling and Analysis: You should have excellent numeracy and analytical ability, along with attention to detail. You should have a strong understanding of financial concepts and possess strong Excel/modelling skills.

Communication: You should have excellent communication skills to represent credibly and clearly in meetings with clients, suppliers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
