Operational Support Officer

Job Description

The Operational Support Grade position at HMP Wayland is a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of the prison. As part of a supportive team, you will be responsible for a range of tasks including security and searches, managing deliveries, supervising visitors, and monitoring phone calls and CCTV. This role requires a combination of desk duties and physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles across the prison grounds.

No formal qualifications are required for this role, but strong communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential. Good judgement and common sense are also important qualities, as well as being a great team player. The OSG role includes working a variety of shifts, including weekends and nights.

This is an extraordinary job that allows you to make a positive impact on the lives of others while protecting the public. Although your contact with prisoners may be limited, you will gain valuable knowledge and experience of how a prison operates. There may also be opportunities to progress into other prison roles, including the OSG to Prison Officer conversion scheme.
